Baker hits century for Regal Masters as Guyana Softball Cup 6 bowls off

first_imgTHE official start to the Guyana Softball Cup 6 cricket competition got underway yesterday at various cricket grounds around Georgetown.The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) is hosting the tournament and delivering on its promise for exciting action with over 15 games played on day one.In the Masters category, the GFSCA team opened the day in fine form, dismissing the Tri State Masters of New York for 96 in 15 overs. GFSCA then raced to 98 for the loss of one wicket in less than 8 overs.The second game of the day saw Albion Masters scoring 206 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs and then restricting the OMSC of Toronto to 116-6 from their 20 overs.The Florida Guyana Hope team suffered their first loss at the hands of the Savage Legends who restricted the Florida side to 163-6 in 20 overs. The Legends would then score 169 runs for 3 wickets in only 13 overs for the victory.Following up their fine form was the GFSCA who chased down the 175-5 run total set by Savage Legends in both of the teams’ second game. GFSCA took 17.4 overs to score 177-4 to clench their victory.In the next game however, the Parika Defenders could not chase down the 183-4 run total of Regal Masters. The Defenders fell short by 6 runs, finishing with 178-4 from their 20 overs.The Regal Masters also continued their dominance chasing down Tri State Masters of New York 131-6 run total in 8 overs without losing a wicket. Randolph Baker was in fine form with an unbeaten 108.Action then switched to the Open category and saw much higher run totals with the first game starting with Success XI obliterating Corriverton.Excellent stroke play and poise in the middle saw the Success side scoring 201-6 in their 20 overs. Their bowling attack followed up the batting performance, dismissing the Corriverton side for 107.Corriverton would then suffer a second loss in a dominating performance by Speed Boat who scored 209 all out in their 20 overs. Corriverton was once again bowled out, this time for 111 in 16 overs.Wellman triumphed over Herstelling in a low-scoring game, tallying 142 all out in 17.2 overs, however their bowlers struck early and consistently and led to the Herstelling side being bowled out for 84 in 16.2 overs.The Parika Warriors, despite being bowled out for 118 in their 20 overs, returned the favour bowling out Albion for 108 to secure the win.Regal Masters continued the form the Masters’ team displayed and registered their first win in the Open category with a close win over Ariel. The Ariel side had to chase down 161 runs but fell short after losing all their wickets for 156 in 18.4 overs.Speedboat also registered a close win over Herstelling after being restricted for 128-4 from their 20 overs. The Herstelling side however did not have enough steam to push them over the ropes, falling short by 3 runs with a score of 126-9 in their 20 overs.Albion redeemed themselves with a win over Ariel after bowling them out for 129 in 19.4 overs and making 130-8 in 17.2 overs.Once again, Regal Masters proved to the rest of the competition that they are a force to be reckoned with, dismissing Parika for 89 after scoring only 163 all out in 19 overs.Meanwhile, New York Enforcers cruised to victory over Wellman after making 196-5 in their 20 overs. Their bowlers then restricted the Wellman side for 139-9 in their 20 overs.Today, the semi-finals will be played and persons interested in viewing the action can do so at Eve Leary Ground, DCC, Malteenoes or the Gandhi Youth Organisation Ground.
