Ron Hunter’s celebratory fall out of his chair proved to be a somewhat costly one – it was clearly worth it, though. On Thursday, the Georgia State coach dropped to the floor after his son, R.J. Hunter, hit a game-winning 3-pointer against Baylor in the NCAA Tournament’s Second Round. Ron Hunter, who was sitting on a rolling chair because he tore his Achilles celebrating his team’s NCAA Tournament berth, cracked his cast as he fell to the ground. A doctor is on his way to Jacksonville to re-cast the foot. Ron Hunter told CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl about the situation Friday morning. What would you do for an NCAA Tournament victory?Georgia State is set to face Baylor on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. E.T. The game will be televised on TNT.

Paris Saint-Germain have relaxed their transfer stance on Neymar, revealing to Barcelona what it will take to bring the Brazilian superstar to Camp Nou this summer. After originally staying steadfast on their €222 million (£200m/$249m) valuation of the 27-year-old in initial talks with the Catalans, sources have told Goal that PSG would consider an offer for Neymar that includes Philippe Coutinho, Nelson Semedo and a cash payment of around €50m (£47m/$57m).Coutinho has been deemed surplus to requirements by Barca since their acquisition of Antoine Griezmann, and was linked with a loan move to Tottenham before the Premier League transfer window slammed shut on Thursday – while Semedo shares the team’s right-back role with Sergi Roberto. Neymar, who is keen on a return to Camp Nou, is yet to play for the Parisians in pre-season and did not feature in the 2-1 Trophee des Champions victory over Rennes on August 3 because of suspension. However, the Brazil international ended up on the pitch for the celebrations following the triumph, but appeared to be awkwardly pushed out of the PSG team photo by team-mate Kylian Mbappe.Barcelona went public in their chase to re-sign Neymar last month, when club president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed the former Santos star wanted to leave the Parisians.Blaugrana coach Ernesto Valverde says he is unsure if Neymar will re-sign at Barca, insisting that he is only focusing on the players in his squad.”We’ll see what happens. The classic response is that he plays for another team and that’s that,” Valverde told a news conference ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Napoli.”All I know is that I’m the manager and I only think about the players I have. They are the ones I’ll be using tomorrow.”As it stands, I don’t know what is going to happen.”PSG begin their Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday with a home match against Nimes, however it is unknown whether Neymar will participate in the match. On Friday, Neymar used his Instagram to reveal his relief that the investigation into rape allegations against him has been closed but he said he will never forget the damage it caused him and his loved ones.
Tammy Abraham is ready to step up and take another penalty after his effort was saved by Liverpool’s Adrian in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday night. The 21-year-old was consoled by team-mates after his miss as Liverpool lifted the trophy following the 2-2 draw in Besiktas Stadium. There may be some concern that the homegrown talent will see his confidence crushed by the miss, but he is resolute about not letting the moment affect him. Unfortunately today, probably one of my most important ones, I missed. It’s about how I react and just get my head up.“I need to keep going. I’ve scored a few. Unfortunately, I missed one of the most important ones for Chelsea. Keep going. They say the top players always miss penalties and it’s about how you react. I’ve just got to keep pushing myself.”The boys have made it feel like nothing has even happened. Everyone’s had their arms around me. They’ve said the best players miss, it’s something to learn from. It’s better it happened now than later on. You grow into a man and learn from it.”It’s a great bunch of boys. Now we’ve just got to focus on the game against Leicester.”Liverpool’s unlikely hero was their second-choice goalkeeper Adrian, who is set to play more at his new club due to an injury to Alisson Becker in their Premier League opener against Norwich. However, Blues fans took to social media complaining the former West Ham shot-stopper crept off his line to save Abraham’s effort. Abraham hadn’t given thought to his opposite number’s actions, despite confusion about why VAR wasn’t used in the UEFA showpiece.“It is what it is. If they saw it, they saw. If they didn’t, they didn’t. That’s football at the end of the day,” he added.Frank Lampard has put his trust in the striker, who scored 26 goals on loan at Aston Villa last season. The striker was pivotal to Dean Smith’s side gaining promotion as he became the first player since 1977 to score more than 25 goals for the Midlands club.He also struck home the winning penalty in the Championship Play-Off semi-final against West Brom. Still, Abraham has much to prove after his inclusion in Lampard’s squad this season as he steps to Premier League level.“It still hasn’t kicked in yet,” he concluded. “I think when you’re given a chance like this you have to give your all for the team and feel like we’re really getting somewhere and things are looking positive. A lot of the boys see the way he wants us to play. We tried to play like that today.”We showed a lot of glimpses of what we can do. We’re a threat. We’re good defensively and we can attack.”We just have to build, go into the game on Sunday. Hopefully, get three points.”I can’t ask for a better bunch of lads. I just have to push this season and hopefully we can be up there to fight for the title. Yeah we would’ve liked to win today and at United. Still early doors. Still got a long season ahead. Still in big competitions as well. It’s about how we react now.”The points on Sunday will be massive for us. I think the fans will be behind us [against Leicester City]. We’ve given two good performances and they can see that. I believe they’ll be behind us and hopefully, we can give them a performance.”
Sadio Mane is “making a great case to be considered Liverpool’s main man above Mohamed Salah”, says Jamie Redknapp. The Senegal international has become a talismanic presence for the Reds and, though he is far from the only one in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, he has been able to maintain the standards he set in the second half of the 2018-19 campaign.Mane was often Liverpool’s go-to man last season as they chased down Premier League and Champions League crowns. He showed that against Southampton, scoring a screamer then setting up Roberto Firmino to confirm the 2-1 win.“The statistics highlight his impact.“No one has scored more Premier League goals than him in 2019. (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)The city of Pittsburgh endured an incredible tragedy last Saturday morning, when a gunman murdered 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue during a ceremony. Days later, a Pitt football player’s on-field celebration is causing an uproar. The Panthers scored a huge win over Virginia tonight, handing the team sole possession of first place in the ACC Coastal Division for the time being.Unfortunately, defensive back Damarri Mathis’ celebration is overshadowing that accomplishment a bit. After a big pass break-up in the fourth quarter, Damarri Mathis appeared to celebrate by imitating a shooter with a machine gun. This is not really an appropriate suggestion in most contexts to be honest. It is especially thoughtless considering the school he plays for.@Deadspin so #16 Mathis on Pitt celebrated a big play simulating shooting a machine gun. Of all places. pic.twitter.com/m8bdMhRyO5— vjporter (@VJporter) November 3, 2018The easiest explanation here is that Mathis just wasn’t thinking. For better, or very likely, worse, guns are part of the larger culture, so you can see where a celebration like this can come from.I highly doubt he meant anything specific or threatening by it, but it is about as bad a look as you can get given the circumstances. We’ll hear an explanation soon I’m sure.

Reuters BarcelonaMarch 1, 2019UPDATED: March 1, 2019 20:35 IST Lewis Hamilton has won four of his five titles with Mercedes since joining from McLaren at the end of 2012 (AP Photo)Ferrari could be half a second quicker than Formula One champions Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton said on Friday as Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time so far on the last day of pre-season testing. The Briton, who has won four of his five titles with Mercedes since joining from McLaren at the end of 2012, told reporters at the Circuit de Catalunya that he faced a tough challenge.”I think the gap is potentially half a second, something like that,” said Hamilton.Vettel’s best lap for Ferrari before lunchtime was the fastest time from eight days of testing – a lap of one minute 16.221 seconds on the softest C5 tyres. That was one hundredth quicker than team mate Charles Leclerc’s previous best of 1:16.231 on Thursday. The season starts in Australia on March 17.Hamilton’s Finnish team mate Valtteri Bottas was second fastest on Friday morning with a time of 1:16.561 – also on the C5 rubber and the first time Mercedes had targeted a truly quick time after days of going through their programmes.”This is going to be the toughest battle yet…their (Ferrari’s) pace is very good at the moment,” said Hamilton, winner of 11 races last year to Vettel’s five.”Last year they arrived with a car working well but they have done even better this year. It’s OK. We don’t mind the challenge, it just means we have to work harder. I’m not worried or disappointed or anything.”Vettel won the first two races of the season last year, with many people including Mercedes reckoning the German had the fastest car.advertisementFerrari’s bid for a first title in a decade unravelled in the second part of the campaign, however, with mistakes by both Vettel and the team. They have since changed the lineup, with Leclerc replacing 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, and Mattia Binotto has taken over from Maurizio Arrivabene as principal.Mercedes have been putting in plenty of laps and sounded more positive on Thursday when both Hamilton and Bottas did full race distances.”Hopefully from this week we will gain another 0.1 seconds from our understanding of the car,” commented Hamilton.”But we don’t know because everyone has different engine modes and fuel loads. Melbourne will be the first time we get a sight of it and then it will be four races before we really know where we stand.”By lunchtime, Vettel had done 68 laps to Bottas’s 71. Frenchman Romain Grosjean, in the Haas, did 73.Russian Daniil Kvyat, in the Honda-powered Toro Rosso, was third fastest in 1:16.898.Red Bull’s Max Verstappen did a mere 29 laps after his mechanics had worked through the night to finish repairs to the car after team mate Pierre Gasly’s crash on Thursday. Also Watch:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. After winning his 1st two bouts by unanimous decision, Panghal was tested in the quater-finals by Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam. Panghal though held his composure and clinched a split decision to make the semi-final.The Boxing Federation of India also confirmed there will be no trails for Amit Panghal in the 52kg category and he will be an automatic pick for the Olympic qualifiers schedule in February in China.Meanwhile, Manish Kaushik, who finished with a bronze in the 63kg category on Friday, said he is happy with the medal in his maiden appearance at the world meet.Manish Kaushik lost to Cuba’s Andy Cruz Gomes in the 63kg semi-final but he created history along with Panghal as they helped India win more than 1 medal at a single edition of the AIBA Men’s World Championships for the first time.”The bout didn’t go too well for me. I gave it my best but lost due to some deficiencies, which I’ll try to improve upon during the next Asia/Oceania rounds so that I can win a gold for my country and represent India at the Olympics,” Manish Kaushik said after the semi-final defeat.”I’m happy with the bronze medal as I won it in my first appearance in the WC. Agarwal (IND) Next vs (67.0) Super Over India Today Web Desk VisakhapatnamOctober 4, 2019UPDATED: October 4, 2019 17:14 IST de Kock and Elgar scripted a 164-run partnership to continue South Africa’s fightback (AP)HIGHLIGHTSSouth Africa ended Day 3 at the score of 385/8Dean Elgar hit 160, while Quinton de Kock scored a fluent 111Ravindra Jadeja picked up his 200th Test wicket in the form of ElgarSouth Africa finished Day 3 of the ongoing 1st Test in an assured position of 385/8, though still trailing India’s first innings total of 502/7 declared by 117 runs. While the tourists started the day in a precarious position on 39/3, the fact that they ended the day while keeping the Indians in the field all day was largely due to the twin centurions Dean Elgar (160) and Quinton de Kock (111). Tailenders Senuran Muthusamy (12) and Keshav Maharaj (3) were batting at the crease for South Africa when Stumps were called. With just 5 wickets in the whole day, the Indian bowlers toiled hard but were often at the receiving end of some defensive captaincy tactics and fielders not being alert to a few half-chances being created. One could not stop but feel for wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock who was visibly disappointed when he was bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin to gift him his 4th wicket of the game, with just over 7 overs remaining till Stumps. Ashwin later bowled Vernon Philander (0) to pick up his 27th 5-wicket haul in Tests.Earlier, Dean Elgar became the first South African to score a Test hundred in India since 2010 (Hashim Amla) as the opener led visitors’ valiant fightback on day three of the series-opener, here on Friday. After resuming the day at 39 for three, South Africa took tea at 292 for five to frustrate the Indian bowlers, who could manage only two wickets in 67 overs bowled today.Elgar and Faf du Plessis (55) shared 115 runs for the fifth wicket before Quinton de Kock joined the centurion in the middle.advertisementDu Plessis’ was the only wicket to fall in the extended afternoon session when Ashwin had the South African captain caught at leg gully against the run of play. The visitors made 153 runs in the session lasting 37 overs but still trail India by 210 runs. Elgar showed exemplary skills while batting in testing sub-continental conditions to score his 12th Test hundred.Indian spinners posed the biggest threat going into day three and he tackled them by mixing caution with aggression. He took the aerial route at the slightest opportunity to release pressure, smashing four sixes to go with 18 boundaries. Elgar got to the three figures in style, dispatching Ashwin for a spectacular six over the cow corner. After du Plessis’ dismissal in the 58th over, de Kock joined Elgar in taking the attack to the spinners. The wicketkeeper-batsman batted in limited-overs mode, collecting 16 fours and 2 sixes. Running out of options, India also tried part-time spinners Hanuma Vihari and Rohit Sharma but to little effect.Earlier, Elgar and du Plessis resisted the Indian attack with an unbeaten 90-run partnership which took South Africa to 153 for four at lunch.Considering what transpired in the final session on Thursday, South Africa were expected to surrender rather quickly but Elgar and Du Plessis played with positive intent against the Indian spinners. While Ashwin and Jadeja got more purchase out of the surface than the South Africa spinners, the pitch did not appear to have demons in it. The odd ball, though, did jump off the wicket.Ashwin, who looked menacing in the final session on Thursday, could not get a wicket in the morning. Both Elgar and Du Plessis were not afraid to use their feet against Ashwin, playing some lofted shots.Elgar made his intentions clear early on by going for the loft over mid-on even though it was a mishit for four. He grew in confidence from there on and was successful in executing the aerial hits and shots through the ground.Elgar, who like all South African batsmen had a forgettable tour of India four years ago, brought his 14th Test fifty with a single in the 40th over. A little later, the southpaw smashed Jadeja for two sixes and a four in the same over. The luck was also on his side when he was on 74 as Saha dropped a sharp catch off Jadeja. But in the end, Jadeja got his reward as Elgar top-edged a sweep into a running Cheteshwar Pujara’s hands, just as he looked set to last the whole day. With the wicket, Jadeja also completed 200 scalps in Tests and the 10th Indian to the feat.At the other end, Du Plessis too looked comfortable ever since he charged down the ground to Ashwin for the first six of his innings.Pacer Ishant Sharma picked up the sole wicket to fall in the session when he got one to jag back in sharply and trap Temba Bavuma (18) in front of the stumps. Also Read | Ravindra Jadeja fastest left-armed bowler to take 200 Test wicketsadvertisementAlso Read | India vs South Africa: Dean Elgar 1st South Africa batsman to hit a hundred in India in 9 yearsFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
